Freiburg: International Day of Social Engagement (Satis Shroff)
International Day of Social Engagement (Satis Shroff)
The International Day of
Social Engagement was celebrated by the city administration at an event with
the title ‘Citizen’s Engagement’ on December 11, 2016 at 7:30 pm in the
Tanzschule Gutmann, Ball-House, Freiburg.
The opening ceremony was
performed by Matthias Blattmann (Tanzschule Gutmann). There were descriptions
of projects, speeches and laudatios and certificates were distributed to the various
project-members, and persons who distinguished themselves with exemplary work
in social engagement by helping refugees, poor, roofless people in Freiburg,
and even for building biking tracks so that the wanderers and bikers don’t be
at loggerheads in the many woods of Freiburg’s surroundings in the Schwarzwald.
Ulrich von Kirchbach,
who is the mayor responsible for culture, integration, social and
senior-citizens, awarded the prizes in the evening.
This long event was
followed by a dance-show by the Dance School Gutmann. Salsa has become the
dance world’s language. The Germans caught on with salsa in the 1980s. This
dance has different styles but the basic elements remain the same. In
Continental Europe we dance the L.A.-style. People in Europe love the musicality,
the body-movements during Salsa, and that makes Salsa the most practiced style,
and brings the Latin American joy on the floor.
After that it was time
for the cocktail party with snacks, white and red wine, the wine makes the
tongue loose and the noise of people chatting gradually arose, with a great
deal of chats in the halls: that was socially engaged people networking. I had
my share of conversations with local politicians, Gerhard Rieger and Ulrich von
Kirchbach for staging eventual poetry in Freiburg.
