Schwarzwaldlyrik: AUTUMN (Satis Shroff)

SCHWARZWALDLYRIK: AUTUMN ( Satis Shroff)

The Zieräpfel has scented white buds in spring,
But in autumn the tree is full
Of shiny cherry-like fruits.
They linger long on the tree,
Even when leaves have fallen.

Ah, Autumn smells so delicious
And the foliage are a feast for the eyes.
I look around and observe,
The trees in the Dreisam Valley
Have turned into a symphony of colours.

Now that it has become colder,
The leaves have turned yellow,
Then orange, red and brown.
Ripe grapes, chestnuts.
Fallen leaves strewn everywhere.

The leaves rustle as a squirrel
Looks for edibles.
Gathers and misplaces them.
Tasty chestnuts you can roast
In your oven.

Autumn is not only
A rhapsody of colours,
But also the season,
When people sneeze and catch a cold.

The landscape is veiled
With a milky mist,
From the valleys to the peaks;
Wetness, raindrops and shades of grey.
But when the sun shines,
Nature beckons you for a walk;
To enjoy the meadows and fields,
Past the Schwarzwald homesteads,
The aroma of apple-pie in your nostrils,
Cinnamon and aniseed biscuits,
To go with freshly ground coffee.
