FREIBURG SINGS (Satis Shroff)
FREIBURG SINGT (Satis Shroff)
On Saturday
the 30th of June 2018 was the well-known Choir Festival ‘Freiburg Singt’ in different parts of the this university
town, which is also known as the Gateway to the Black Forest. The participants
thirty choirs sand their repertoire in different styles from pop and jazz to
classical songs.
It was the
biggest choir event in the entire region in cooperation with the Freiburger
Choir Project. The choirs came from the Chorverbnd Breisgau (CVB), which involved the communities from the Landkreis Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald,
Emmendingen and the City of Freiburg, as well as the choris and formations that
weren’t members of the Chorverband Breisgau.
The musical
side was organised by the teams of the Chorverband Breisgau comprising members
of the CVB-chief Florian Bischof, Jan
Elert and Willi Ritter.
The
Badischen Youth Choir under the leadership of music director of the Badischen
Chorverband Mathias Böhringer, gave what
we in Germany call a ‘Leckerbissen’
(something of a treat). The Badische Jugendchor (youth choir) was
initiate in 2010 by the Badischen Chorverband
to give the youth aged between 16 and 27 years a possibility to
participate in over-regional musical performances. This performance was at 11am
at the Freiburger Potatoe Market.
This was
followed by the Männergesangverein (MGV Freiburg-Kappel) performing at the
Konvikt Strasse from 11 till 11:20 am, then at the Augustinerplatz. And finally
at the Kartoffelmarkt (Potato Market) from 12 till 12:30.
The sun was
shining brightly and it was great to sing for the Freiburger audience and
visitors from Switzerland and France,
and passersby in downtown Freiburg. The people were receptive,
appreciated and clapped to the rhythm of
our songs.
