Savvy Merkel as the Lady with the Lamp? (Satis Shroff)
Chancellor, Angela Merkel received the 'Lamp of Peace' in Assisi in Italy. It's a Catholic award for seeking peaceful coexistence of people.
As I mentioned earlier in one of my posts, it wouldn't be a surprise if Frau Merkel received the Nobel Prize for Peace for she has been rather thickheaded in her stance for the refugees from Syria and other parts of the world, despite the protests from the rightists, the AfD and other shades of political parties in the Bundesrepublic.
It takes character, stamina, integrity and determination to do what she has been doing for the refugees in the past.
However, there is no doubt that a part of the people of Germany have what the world press prefers to call 'the German Angst.' The fear of Islamisation is widespread in European countries but it will be good for all parties if, and when, a compromise is reached on the Islam and other issues. The influx of refugees has ceased.
Germany is headed for peaceful times internally, even though the refugees have not been integrated into the mainstream society.
This Lamp of Peace is a small step and an important recognition and gratitude for Chancellor Merkel's Lebenswerk.
