NEPALESE FESTIVAL IN FREIBURG: 
Key words: Nepalese in German diaspora,jamara, tika, vedic rituals, Nepalese traditions & customs

The Freiburger Nepalese community, mostly MA and PhD students, au-pairs, nurses and others celebrate Dasain in the German diaspora together with ritual ceremonies of tika-talo on the foreheads of the people with a blessing.
Nepalese Hindus celebrate this festival with their non-Hindu (in this case German) friends. The place was the Stusibar in Freiburg-West. In Nepal, all government offices, educational institutions and other offices remain closed during the festival period.

The festival falls in September or October due to the lunar calendar, starting from the shukla paksha, bright lunar fortnight, of the month of Ashvin and ending on purnima-- the full moon. In the fifteen days of Dasain Celebration, the most important days are the first, seventh, eighth, ninth and the tenth. The pics are from last October.

We had a great time as you can see from the pics. Nepalese traditional cuisine, canned, groovy Nepali music and dances.We rocked the Stusibar.

Matinee of the Dreisam Valley Choirs (Satis Shroff) The Dreisamtal choirs will be staging a concert to honour its eldest singers in the Sommerberg Hall in Buchenbach, near Freiburg, at a matinee.   A matinee is actually an afternoon theatrical performance, but in the French sense of the word ‘ matin’ which means ‘morning’ or   what occupies a morning. We’re proud of our singers who have sung in the singing associations (vereine) for 60, 65 and 70 years in their respective choirs. The following choirs will be singing to honour the chosen singers: the men’s choir Buchenbach, Kirchzarten, Oberried, St. Peter, Zarten and the gospel-choir ‘Zarduna Sind and Swing.’ The event begins at 11 am on the 25 th of March 2018.
