Travelogue: Through Nepalese Eyes (Satis Shroff)

Bild
Review by Renate Mousseux. M.A. ED: Through Nepalese Eyes is a highly interesting, authentic story taking the reader through traditions and customs of 2 different countries. The stories are written through the Eyes of a Nepalese, hence the Title. We learn about the role of women, religious beliefs, political events, ethical and socio-economic situations in Nepal. We see comparisons of Europe and Asia and learn about the vast differences of life. This book is a must read, I recommend it highly. (Renate Mousseux. M.A. ED. Body Language Expert, Professor of English, French and German USA) * * * Die Schilderungen von Satis Shroff in ‘Through Nepalese Eyes’ sind faszinierend und geben uns die Möglichkeit, unsere Welt mit neuen Augen zu sehen.“ (ALICE GRÜNFELDER VON UNIONSVERLAG / LIMMAT VERLAG, ZÜRICH). https://www.kobo.com/de/de/ebook/through-nepalese-eyes? https://www.kobo.com/de/de/ebook/through-nepalese-eyes

Review: THE GURKHAS (Satis Shroff)Review: The World Beyond the Mountains (Satis Shroff) Byron Farwell: The Gurkhas, Penguin 1985, London, 317 pages, ISBN o-14-007569-0 ‘The Gurkhas’ is a history of the finest infantrymen in the world who come from a country where ‘It is better to die than to be a coward,’ and where most bear the name Bahadur, which means ‘courageous,’ and who carry out their mission with the help of the deadly, curved kukris. ‘Ayo Gurkhali!’ Here come the Gurkhas! Is a battlecry that makes their enemies in battle wince, and sometimes abandon their weapons to save their dear lives. Younghusband marched unopposed into Lhasa on August 3, 1904 with his Gurkhas. During the Falkland War the Argentines fled when they realized that they were being outflanked by the Gurkhas. Byron Farwell narrative about the Gurkha battalions and their military engagements are enhanced by citations from the books on the same, making it a jolly reading material. The readability score is g...

MOUNTAIN FLIGHT: Kathmandu to Everest (Satis Shroff)

FLYING ABOVE THE ABODE OF THE GODS (Satis Shroff) "Will the passengers please fasten their seat belts," said a soft voice over the intercom. And I slid one end of the belt into the heavy metallic slot, sat back, and peered through the window of the Nepalese jet. The runway was clear and there was an Airbus 310, three Russian-made helicopters and a Dornier-aircraft near the control tower of Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport. Some people waved from the tower. It was one of those early-morning mountain flights that are run 'provided-the-weather-is-good' as they say in tourist-brochures. My seat was right near the port wing and I could get a fairly good view of the engines coming noisily to life. The jet taxied lazily down the southern end of the runway, swerved around and sped towards the north gathering momentum till I could finally feel a hollow in my stomach. We were airborne. It was a steep climb and the blue mountain front was looming close. You c...
