Zeitgeistlyrik: A Springstorm in the Schwarzwald (Satis Shroff)

The sky is blue
But it changes its hue,
When clouds come by.
A fickle wind sways,
And the sun is hidden
By the pillows in Heaven.

Heavy dark clouds
Appear in the blue hilly horizon.
Flashes of lightning behind the peaks.
Some people cower
In the safety of their homes,
Others remain rooted,
Fascinated by the scenario
Unfurling before their eyes.

More flashes of light,
Followed by the howling wind,
Increasing in strength.
You discern the pittering and pattering
On your balcony, terrrace
Rooftops and windowpanes.
Oh, a big storm's brewing tonight.

It approaches like a monstrous predator,
The wrath of the rounded cloud masses,
Heaped on the mountain base,
Begins its tirade;
Descending upon Kappel and Kirchzarten,
Like a great number of arrows.

Hailstones as big as your fist,
With an icy ring in the middle,
Come hurtling down.
Close the shutters,
Says your mind.
You stand there awed with angst,
As the pellet fury hammers:
On rooftops, windows,
On the street,
The neighbour's wintergarden,

And abates with a soft murmur,
Leaving behind a trail of frozen rain,
Smashed branches and slashed flowers
And scared birds in the thickets.
