A Walk Along Lausanne (Satis Shroff) Come with me to the town hall of Lausanne, which is an imposing 18 th century building. The roof recalls the rich homes of wealthy Swiss landowners from the region. The pedestrian streets are cobble-stoned. You cross the Bessieres Bridge and enter the Caroline district with its shopping malls, bars, boutiques and eating places. You can’t miss the Saint Laurent church, which is used by visitors as a resting place and for picknicks on its steps. An elegant place to stay awhile and take in the Swiss atmosphere. All around you, French is the prevalent tongue, so are the signs on the shops and the metro, buses and trains. A mythical figure? Certainly not. I went to the pretty town of Staufen via Bad Krvzingen from Freiburg. From the distance you can see the ruins of a castle looming above the vineyards on a hill. In the town below is a Gasthaus called Zum Lvwen (To the Lion). The tavern has a fresco on the wall by Prof. Fritz Geiges on the front wall depicting the Devil ' Mephistopheles in the process of breaking the neck of a broken down Dr. Faustus. The Kashmir Issue: Indo-Pak Sabre-rattling (Satis Shroff)   Pakistan celebrates Independence Day amid Kashmir crisis reported CNN recently.  Pakistan is prepared to "fight to the end" over Kashmir if necessary, Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Wednesday during a speech from the Pakistani-controlled part of disputed Jammu and Kashmir. PM Khan, who was in Kashmir to mark Pakistan's independence day, accused India of trying to marginalise and radicalise the region's Muslims. He also called New Delhi's move to strip Indian-controlled Kashmir of its autonomy a "strategic blunder" by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Khan's address comes a week after India's parliament deliberately voted to reclassify the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir  as a union territory, allowing New Delhi greater authority over the country's only Muslim-majority region.
